Ruben Selitzer was born in Mexico City, and as a boy he dreamed of being an auto mechanic. He followed his dream when, at the age of twenty-one, he went to the United States to study automotive mechanics in California and Texas. He returned to Mexico, moved to Puerto Vallarta, and opened up his own shop, which he ran for seven years. Eventually, Ruben decided he wanted more training because “the industry was growing and the technology was growing.” He moved to San Francisco and began working and training with Audi of America.
In only five years with Audi, Ruben climbed the ranks and earned the company’s top distinction, becoming a Master Automotive Mechanic. He also passed all seven levels for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), earning him the title of Master ASE Technician.
Next, Ruben says, “I wanted to open a shop again, and Vallarta called me back.” His new shop, Precision Motors, has been open since November of 2008. Precision Motors specializes in European, Asian, and American cars, but Ruben stresses, “We can deal with any car and any problem.”
Aside from Ruben’s extensive training, his embrace of new technology is another thing that sets Precision Motors apart from other shops in PV. Ruben says, “We have three diagnostic computers. Because there are so many models, every manufacturer creates its own diagnostic system. I spend my money on diagnostic tools, because that’s how I work – it’s not about guessing or changing parts anymore.”
