Update 3: On Monday, after a few hours of unusually intense early-afternoon rain, local authorities decided to stop all traffic at two points – the Sayulita-Bucerias stretch on Highway 200 and the Sayulita-Higuera Blanca stretch on the alternate route. North-south traffic from these points is stopped until further notice.

Update 2: On Sunday, September 5th at Km 125 on Highway 200, a large landslide covered both sides of the road. Traffic is being re-routed from Sayulita, towards Punta de Mita, through La Cruz, and continuing on to Bucerias. Bahia de Banderas Mayor Hector Paniagua commented that the water deteriorated the foundations of the highway and that it will require major repairs. No timeline is available as of now. Until the road is repaired, all traffic will have to divert to Punta de Mita to cross this area.

News on the Pulse, Special Edition: Puerto Vallarta's community joins in to help tourists and commuters after the recent bridge collapse. After traffic was closed on Highway 200 on August 31, 2010 due to the partial fall of one the Ameca River bridges, tour companies rallied to give a helping hand. Free sea shuttles were quickly put in place to help people get from Paradise Village in Nuevo Vallarta to the API Maritime Terminal, thus connecting Riviera Nayarit with Jalisco. Companies such as Vallarta Adventures, Bahia Alegre, Cruceros Princesa, Beach Boy, Bubu's Toy, and Vallarta Sol helped bring over 8,000 people across. Thanks to all who participated!

Both north and south-bound traffic have been re-routed to the remaining bridge. In response, PV Pulse has made a Car Pool Tool in order to reduce traffic congestion. Check it out here!

Fantastic reporting on such an important event. Sad that 2 people are missing. Our thoughts go out to their families. But pvulse and VideoDiva produced an honest straight-foward video which showed us how wonderful the Mexican communities and companies are when tragedy strikes. Bravo!
