Garza Blanca Fine Arts is hosting an opening of a new exhibition by artist Joaquín Sáinz Luna titled "Imágenes," and you are cordially invited. The show opens Saturday, August 21st at 7:00 P.M. in Garza Blanca’s lobby, and runs through November 15th. At the opening, you’ll have a chance to meet the artist. Amigos de Bucerias Food Drive

Weather permitting, on Saturday, August 21st from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., Amigos de Bucerías will be holding a Food Drive in memory of John Ozzello at Mega Flamingos. Come meet the team and help the less fortunate by bringing donations of rice, beans, fideos, Maseca, and other dry goods, or consider donating cash. The food will be distrubuted by La Fuente non-denominational church, and cash donations will be used to buy additional supplies for the people of La Fuente. Informal Art Discussions
Starting September 6th in the Gringo Gulch area, an Artist Workshop group will be forming Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:00 A.M.-3:00 P.M. The group will hold informal discussions on art in a fun and friendly atmosphere under the guidance of local artist Lucille Shipley, and artists of any level are welcome to participate. Global Medical Tourism Conference & Expo
The Global Medical Tourism Conference & Expo will take place from August 24th through the 26th at the Casamagna Marriot. Medical tourism is the fastest-growing sector of the health care industry. On average, medical costs are 50% cheaper in Mexico than the U.S., and it’s estimated that medical tourism could soon account for another 20% of Mexico’s tourism industry. The expo will be attended by numerous hospitals, clinics, pharmaceutical companies, labs, insurance companies, and medical suppliers, as well as other representatives and companies in the tourism industry. Registration for the three-day event costs $5,000 pesos for general attendance, $4,000 pesos for corporate attendees, and $3,500 pesos for scholars and students. Daiquiri Dick’s Mahi Mahi Cooking Contest
Daiquiri Dick's restaurant is holding its 1st Annual Mahi Mahi Cooking Contest. Called "dorado" in Mexico, Mahi Mahi is often the catch of the day in local restaurants. Daquiri Dick's is looking for the best use of this delicious fish in an original recipe. Six semifinalists' recipes will be presented to a panel of judges and diners, and will be judged on taste and originality. The winners will recieve Daquiri Dick's Gift Certificates or copies of the Daquiri Dick's Kitchen Workbook, and the winning recipe will be featured as a noted item on a special menu and on their website.
