The Cinema in Concert
On August 8th at noon, the Youth Symphonic Orchestra of Guadalajara will be giving a performance titled "El Cine en Concierto," or "The Cinema in Concert." Performing at Teatro Vallarta, the orchestra will be playing songs from a number of movies. Only five years old, the talented non-profit orchestra has already made its mark internationally, performing not only throughout Mexico but also in Ecuador, France, and Belgium, where it won first prize in the European Festival for Youth. Bowling League Final Party and Awards Night
The summer bowling league at Collage that started at the beginning of May proved to be a huge success. In celebration of the end of the season, Café Roma will be hosting a Final Party and Awards Night for the league on August 11th at 7:00 P.M. Admission is free for league members and substitutes that bowled three or more nights; for everyone else, it’s only $100 pesos at the door. If you missed out on this summer’s fun, don’t worry – plans are in the works for a fall bowling league starting in October. Fourth Annual Marlin and Tuna Fishing Tournament
From August 12th through the 14th, Riviera Nayarit will be holding its Fourth Annual Marlin and Tuna Fishing Tournament. Competitor check-in will be from 5:00 to 10:00 P.M. on the 12th at the Marival Convention Center in Nuevo Vallarta. The next two days, fishers will depart from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and compete in four categories: marlin, tuna, mahi-mahi, and catch-and-release sailfish. Prizes are impressive, and include new Toyota and Nissan cars, plane tickets, fishing equipment, and cash. To enter, the registration fee is $30,000 pesos per boat (maximum of 4 people). Fireman and Lifeguard Appreciation Lunch
On August 14th from 2:00 until 6:00 P.M., there will be a Fireman and Lifeguard Appreciation Lunch at the fire station at Avenida Las Americas 565 in Colonia Lazaro Cardenas. This event is a way to show our appreciation for the hardworking men and women that keep Vallarta safe. Tickets, which must be purchased in advance, are $150 pesos, and include a spaghetti lunch and a drink. In addition to the ticket price, all attendees are asked to bring an item from the Wish List, which includes bandages, antibiotic cream, band-aids, sheets, blankets, blenders, cleaning supplies, kitchen utensils, gauze, gloves, non-perishable food, toilet paper, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. Wine and Appetizer Evening
Expats in Vallarta are hosting a Wine and Appetizer Evening on both August 6th and 18th. These summer events will be held in members' homes, and in the fall the group will resume their bi-monthly Happy Hour events around town. If you would be interested in hosting an event and making some new friends, all you need to supply is the venue and paper plates, glasses, and napkins.
