Update: 4:00pm PV time. Nayarit's Governor Ney Gonzalez posted on his FB page that in Bucerias the ocean had receded 15 to 20 meters but that everything had returned to normal.
Update: 11:23am PV time. President Calderon (@FelipeCalderon) tweets "Aunque se modera el riesgo para las costas mexicanas, debe mantenerse la alerta de #tsunami". Although the risk to the Mexican coast is moderate, people should remain on alert for the #tsunami.
Update: 11:22am PV time. President Calderon (@FelipeCalderon) tweets "Me reporta Secretario de Marina que estiman que en Ensenada el 1er impacto del #tsunami ya se dio, y que no rebasó el nivel de marea alta." Secretary of the Navy leads me to believe that the 1st Ensenada # tsunami impact happened already and that it did not exceed the level of high tide.
Update: 10:27am PV time. PV Pulse has confirmed with the Gustavo Ordaz (PVR) airport that flights are coming in regularly. A spokesperson for the airport said they are operating normally and that no special recommendations are issued at this time.

Update: 8:41am PV time. informador.com.mx reports that waves of up to a meter are expected to hit Puerto Vallarta (Jalisco), Manzanillo (Colima), and Lazaro Cardenas (Michoacan) at around 12:30pm.

An earthquake measuring 8.9 hit the coast of Japan at 2:46a.m. local time. The most powerful earthquake in 100 years has left over a 100 people dead, with over 50 more missing. The event triggered a 30 foot tsumani off the coast of Japan, and there is a further tsunami warning for another 50 countries including Indonesia, Russia, New Zealand, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Panama, Honduras, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, and the United States.
The SEP (Secretary of Education) Jalisco has issued an alert for schools in the state.
