After a brief opening ceremony, competitors departed from the piers of Marina Paradise Village to the waters of Banderas Bay.
On the first day of competitions there was activity in the categories of Snipe, J24, Lightning, Hobbie 16, Windsurf, Laser and Sunfish.
Team Mexico got the lead in the categories of Female Windsurf and Female Laser Radial, thanks to great efforts from Demita Vega and Tania Elías Calles respectively.
Tania Elías Calles is the biggest hope of Mexico to get a medal in the PanAm Sailing Tournament. Tania moved to Riviera Nayarit specifically to focus on her preparation for the Pan American Games, and the Olympic Games of next year in London. Judging by yesterday’s results, she made the right decision.
