The Carnaval Parade has been held for the previous 3 years in the Romantic Zone, as it was created and sponsored by Peter Deep of the now closed Club Manana, but this year it is expanding to showcase the new Malecon.
The parade will start at 9pm at Parque Hidalgo and continue along the Malecon and I.L. Vallarta to Basilio Badillo and Olas Altas, it is expected to finish around midnight. The judges will be set up on a special stage by the Lighthouse.
The Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), a public body responsible for the promotion of Puerto Vallarta, is involved in the organization of the Carnaval as the Mayor Salvador Gonzalez Resendiz authorized the official sponsorship of the parade.
The CVB announced that there will be Mariachi bands, large colorful floats from many local clubs, circus performers, traditional dancers, beauty contest winners, presentations by local charity groups and much more.
More than 100 entries have been confirmed at the moment and thousands of people are expected to watch the parade directly along the Malecon and the Zona Romantica.
The Carnival origins can be found in the Catholic tradition of the Lent. The Lent is a period of forty days of abstinence before Easter; so, the Carnival was the last chance to have fun. Nowadays, less and less people practice the abstinence of the Lent, but the celebration of the Carnival festivities is more popular than ever before.
