The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Gloria Guevara, and the governors of Jalisco and Nayarit, Emilio Gonzalez and Roberto Sandoval respectively, assured that everything is ready for the first Tianguis Turistico to be held away from its original location in Acapulco.
From now on, the Tianguis will be rotating from one destination to another, sharing the great honor to host an event like this one. Miss Guevara said that the 2012 edition of the Tianguis will be the most successful and innovative.
Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit put together a great bid in order to bring the Tianguis Turistico 2012 to the region. The candidacy presented as “Two destinations, one paradise” was selected from a strong competition of 17 candidacies from all over the country. Some of the favorite bids to take the Tianguis 2012 with them, were Riviera Maya, Mexico City, Mazatlan, Veracruz and Acapulco itself. Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit even received an award for working together in this regard.

For this edition there is already an increase of 50% in the amount of buyers registered compared to last year; the number of registered countries has also seen an increase of 30% in comparison to the 2011 edition.
An increase of 24% is expected in the amount of registered businesses and a 25% increase in the amount of business appointments. In total, the Tianguis, to be held from March 25 to March 28 2012, will generate an economic output of more than $100 million pesos for the region.
It´s important to point out that the tourism industry is the third source of foreign currencies in the country, just behind oil and remittances. The tourism sector represents an important 9% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Mexico, a number that explains by itself why this is such an important event.
