Albert Cabrera Represents PV in the PhotoWalk
Late last month was the Photo Walk, an annual event dreamed up by famous photographer Scott Kelby. The premise is simple: photographers around the world meet up in various cities to walk around, take photos, and socialize. This year’s event saw over 33,000 participants in over 1,100 cities, one of which was Vallarta. In PV, the Photo Walk started in the town’s main plaza and covered areas of Gringo Gulch and the Malecon. Resident Albert Cabrera was chosen as the winning photographer for PV with his image of The Rotunda sculpture on the Malecon. Now, Albert is going up against the winning images from all 1,111 other participating cities. To vote for Albert, see the voting page here. Congratulations and good luck!

Trio Celebrates 13 Years in Puerto Vallarta

This past Saturday, local restaurant Trio celebrated its thirteenth anniversary in Puerto Vallarta. German chef Bernhard Güth worked at some of the most famous restaurants in Europe and the U.S. before coming to Puerto Vallarta and opening Trio in August of 1997. Swedish chef Ulf Henrikkson partnered with Güth in 2001, making Trio “the only restaurant in town with two well-recognized chef-owners behind the stove.” This unique collaboration has paid off; Trio’s Mediterranean cuisine has won numerous awards such as “Frommer’s Exceptional,” “Fodor’s Choice,” and “Best Overall” restaurant in Virtual Vallarta’s Readers’ Choice Awards in 2009 and 2010. For more information, check out the website our sister company PV Pulse Media recently redesigned for Trio at www.triopv.com.

Welder Invests in Vallarta’s Future

Steve Menard, the owner of Yakima, Washington-based company MBI Construction, has been visiting Vallarta every year for the last six years to relax and play golf. He’s always given money and donations to local charities, but this year, he decided to do something bigger. With the help of some other Yakima businesses, Menard and his team have been converting a large moving trailer into a mobile welding school. When it’s finished, the trailer will travel to PV, where it will be used as the foundation for a basic welding program at Feed the Children Vallarta’s school. Menard hopes that these classes will offer some of Vallarta’s most disadvantaged young people a chance to learn skills that they can use in the future.

PVRPV Summer Bowling League Wrap-Up Party
Last week, players, substitutes, and friends of the PVRPV Summer Bowling League celebrated the end of the season at Café Roma. The fun-filled evening included a 50/50 raffle, a karaoke competition, and an awards ceremony. The awards categories included Most Improved Bowlers, Top Bowlers, Most Likely Not to Become a Professional Bowler, the Royal Flush Award, and Most Spirited. If you missed out on the summer’s bowling action, don’t worry – a new league is being organized which will take place from October 6th through April 20th. For more information, or to reserve a spot, email Tim at tim@pvrpv.com. Café Roma continues to raise money all year with karaoke events and more for the School of Champions here in Vallarta. Thanks to Albert Cabrera for his photos in this article.

Same-Sex Adoption Ruling Upheld in Mexico City
On the heels of its decision stating that same-sex marriages are valid and that all states must recognize them, Mexico’s Supreme Court of Justice recently made another controversial decision: by a 9-2 vote, the Court stated that Mexico City’s law that allows same-sex couples to adopt children will be upheld. This decision makes Mexico City the first capital city in Latin America to give gay couples the same marriage and adoption rights as heterosexual couples. Critics of this new decision, such as Mexico’s conservative ruling National Action Party (PAN) and the Catholic Church, argue that the law should be overturned because it is not in the best interest of the adopted children.
