The last lunar eclipse of 2010 will be visible in Puerto Vallarta in the very early morning of December 21, between 12:30am and 4:00 am, local time.
According to NASA, the start of the total eclipse will occur around 1:41am, when the moon passes through the Earth’s umbra, or inner shadow. At this time the moon will take on a red color, which will last until about 2:35am.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth, the sun, and the moon align in such a way that the sun’s rays are shielded from the moon. The effect, which can only take place during a full moon, results in a series of vivid color changes.
