Officials at Gustavo Diaz Ordaz airport in Puerto Vallarta have announced that they've been able to reduce the number of flights cancelled due to facility renovations to 55, from the original estimate of 198.

Key to the reduction in service disruption has been the rescheduling by most airlines of their landing times. For this winter, most flights will arrive during the day to allow restoration work in the evenings and nights.

Only Sunwing was unable to reschedule their flight times, and their fleet accounts for all of the 55 cancelled arrivals.

Earlier this year Villaseñor Francisco Reyes, manager at Gustavo Diaz Ordaz, announced that approximately $213 million pesos would be invested into airport renovations. The main improvements planned include expanding parking, paving the taxiways, replacing the air-conditioning system, and adding a new automatic baggage check.
