After the Gold Cup triumph of Mexico over the US in June, and the U-17 World Cup championship that got the attention of the whole country, nothing too spectacular was expected from the U-20 national team. But quietly, they’ve got themselves into the semi-finals after beating Colombia, hosts of the tournament.
A couple of World Cup championships in one summer would be a historic success for a normally underachieving Mexican football. That’s why tomorrow night (Wednesday 17th, 20:00hrs), Mexico will be paralyzed (one more time) watching a match that could cap a summer to remember.
But it won’t be an easy task, Brazil is the top scorer of the tournament and, after beating Spain in penalties, are the big favorites to win it all. Mexicans will have to bring their best game if they want to play the second World Cup final for Mexico in six weeks.
