We all know about Mexico’s huge problem with obesity, and how it has become such a big issue that Congress has just approved new taxes on soft-drinks and junk food.
Part of the blame has always gone in direction to that typical Mexican diet based in corn tortillas and lots of fried stuff like the traditional and delicious “tacos al pastor”.
However, the study titled “Tacos al Pastor and Flautas de Cochinita Pibil. Do you what are you eating?” published by five students and one UDLAP scholar showed surprising results that indicate that eating five tacos al pastor or two Flautas de Cochinita Pibil has more nutritional value than having one of those fiber bars that are supposed to be good for your health.
The students analyzed both the tacos al pastor and the flautas of cochinita pibil finding the following percentages:
Humidity: Tacos al Pastor 42.47%
Carbohydrates: Tacos al Pastor 23.51%
Mineral nutrients: Tacos al Pastor 1.33%
Their conclusion is that both the tacos and the flautas are healthy food, due to their more-than-acceptable level of fat which is lower than products like donuts, fries or some fiber bars that register between 20% and 30% of fat.
So, from now on we can enjoy our unique and exquisite tacos al pastor without any guilt!
