Gabriela Montes de Oca moved from Germany to Mexico in 1966. After making Puerto Vallarta her home, she opened Andrea’s Silver in 1999 with her daughter Andrea.
Andrea’s Silver carries jewelry made by twenty-five international artists, all of whom live and work in Mexico. What makes the store special is that every single piece is chosen by hand; Gabriela never buys by catalogue or weight. There’s also something for every taste and budget, with prices ranging from 100 to 10,000 pesos.
While Gabriela’s favorite metal is silver (because, she says, its properties allow jewelry makers to express themselves artistically), she also carries pieces made of 18K and 24K gold. Many of the pieces feature semiprecious stones such as amethyst, onyx, topaz, coral, and pearls. Gabriela has also done extensive traveling around the world to bring some more exotic materials back to Mexico, like gems from Idar-Oberstein in Germany (known as the Edelsteinstadt, or “Gemstone City”), jade from Myanmar, and jewelry from India.
Family-owned and operated, Andrea’s Silver is a great place to browse one-of-a-kind jewelry with no pressure. Gabriela would like to invite you to come and visit, saying, “I’ll be happy to find something special for you.”
