When A Touch of Gold opened its doors in January of 2009, it filled a niche in Puerto Vallarta’s jewelry scene that had long been overlooked. When most people think of Mexican jewelry, they think of silver first. And rightfully so – today, Mexico is the second largest producer of silver in the world. Before A Touch of Gold, finding quality jewelry with gold was difficult. As the fifteen or so artists that make jewelry for the store began creating mixed-metal pieces, the public responded very favorably to these new options.
Most of A Touch of Gold’s pieces are one-of-a-kind and made from a combination of silver (sterling or .950) and gold (14, 18, or 24K). Many also feature gemstones from Mexico, such as fire agate, obsidian, amber, onyx, and fire opal. Opals come in a variety of colors, but the fire opal with its special orange, yellow, and red reflections exists only in Mexico.
