Open for over 30 years, Puerto Vallarta’s Las Palomas has grown from a taqueria to one of the Malecon’s most popular dining establishments. Known for a high-quality and varied menu, Las Palomas delivers top notch food and attentive service in a premier spot overlooking the Bay of Banderas.
It all started in 1979 when founder Nelly Barquet opened the doors to the new restaurant, disturbing a flock of pigeons. The birds took flight, and earned the business its name: “Las Palomas” (the pigeons).
In the decades since, Las Palomas has evolved and secured its spot as a Malecon must-see.
The first thing many visitors notice is the restaurant’s distinctive hacienda style. Modelled after the main houses of ranches or plantations, the architecture provides an open, airy atmosphere with regional touches. Multi-level dining areas are finished in brick and tile, and terraced levels with open areas bring the outside in. A fully-stocked bar and coffee station flanks the first-floor salon, and a staircase leads to a second, top-storey seating area.

While the atmosphere transports diners to a courtyard oasis, the menu delivers a range of options, all prepared by Las Palomas’ skilled and experienced chef. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, favourites include chilaquiles con pollo and rancheros marco. Mexican dishes are complemented by sea food, steaks, and lobster. Insiders recommend the grilled mahi mahi, finished in the wood fire oven and served with lobster sauce. All of Las Palomas’ dishes are prepared with the finest ingredients, and the kitchen uses nothing but purified water for preparations and cooking.
If superb food served in a gracious setting isn’t enough, Las Palomas often features live music, Aztec dancers, and even karaoke.
