El Dorado is one of the restaurants with most history in Puerto Vallarta, its origins blend with the origins of the city, and with the people who made it what it's now.
In 1961, before the tourist boom, before TV's, radios, and telephones reached Vallarta, the late Guillermo Wulff and his wife Nelly Barquet opened the quaint El Dorado as the first restaurant in town. During the filming of Night of the Iguana, El Dorado became the favorite hangout of the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner, Richard Burton and Rock Hudson. El Dorado soon became the Puerto Vallarta celebrity hot spot on the beach.
But El Dorado is much more than history and tradition, under a new management since 2010 and after a deep facelift a year ago, El Dorado pretends to become a platform to recover that vibe that used to characterize Puerto Vallarta, which somehow has been losing it in the last few years.

El Dorado is well-known for its great location on one of the best beaches in town, Los Muertos Beach, and for its exquisite food. But the new style of El Dorado works on different projects with the idea of making it an integral restaurant. So, there are three pillars around which El Dorado is changing the whole concept of a restaurant in the beach; these pillars are: art, sport and music.
The place already has its own art gallery with an exhibition from a different artist every month, its in-house artist on the person of Mara Díaz, performances once a week, and some other projects in the making with the same goal of including art into the El Dorado experience.
At El Dorado they believe that sports bring a complete different atmosphere to any place, a different kind of energy. With this in mind, El Dorado offers free yoga lessons every morning from 8:30 to 9:30, and they are also promoting one of the most trendy sports in town: the paddleboard surf.
Then there is music. Music defines the mood of a restaurant, and at El Dorado they are very conscious of this. A great mix of music can always be heard in the background of the restaurant/beach club, but from time to time a good DJ will be there mixing it live.

So, there you have it, a good Mexican restaurant with fresh seafood and finger food during days, and a fine gourmet dining option; a hip beach club with good music and a variety of sports options, plus an art gallery, a pet-friendly policy, a kitchen that closes at midnight and the best ambience at night with comfy sofas and bonfires in the sand… this is a place that has it all!
