Probably the most popular type of tour in Puerto Vallarta is the canopy tour, and for good reason – canopy tours offer you the unforgettable experience of flying hundreds of feet above the beautiful jungle-covered Sierra Madre mountains that surround the town.
There are many options when it comes to canopy tour companies in Vallarta, but the basic idea is the same for all of them. You wear a special harness, which attaches to a pulley, which attaches to a series of steel cables that you glide down at varying speeds (some up to 30 mph / 50 kph)! Most of the tours available have between eleven and fourteen zip cables, with platforms in between from which you can look at the abundant flora and fauna such as coffee trees, orchids, and parakeets.
The companies will provide all the necessary equipment, such as harnesses and helmets. As far as clothing, it’s suggested that you wear something light and comfortable – shorts are okay – and shoes rather than sandals. Insect repellent is also recommended.
